DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The City of Des Moines is seeking both entry and lateral level applications for the full-time position of Police Officer.  The successful applicant will be assigned to patrol, with additional opportunities in Investigations, Bicycle, Traffic, Street Crimes, K-9, Major Incident Response Team, Special Projects Officer and School Resource Officer.  Officers also are responsible for the protection of life and property, apprehension of criminals, and enforcement of laws and ordinances.  Other duties are to preserve law and order, to prevent and discover the commission of crime and to enforce motor vehicle operation and regulations.

The community Oriented Policing concept and the department's Strategic Plan have been adopted and guide our day-to-day operations.
